Cockermouth area of west cumbria would fit the bill perfectly.

I’ll be honest, the south has got potential to be too hot for me in summer.

Not sure where my bias lies…. A month or so of hot weather in summer and the crowds in the south or months of higher heating bills and long, dark winters.

They can now only do 90 days in Europe (they were still fervent Brexiteers which we just smiled at)

Last year we met a couple in Spain on their way back to Santander for the ferry. They looked a bit confused when I told them in my thick Essex accent that we’d been in Spain for five or six months. When I told them Brexit rules don’t apply to me due to German passport they looked really pissed off and then started saying that they never really like to travel for more than three months and really three months was more than enough.

They were also fans of Farage.

I often dream of this. If I was a multi millionaire retiree, I’d split my time between Dunkeld (summer), Viareggio in Italy (spring and autumn), and Lake Wanaka in NZ (winter). If I had to pick one … erm … probably Dunkeld.

Machynlleth, not far to CYB or Nant y Aryan. Not far to Aberdovey. Nice small town. Riding from the town centre.

Lots of small roads to ride on and a railway station.

My parents retired to Settle in North Yorkshire and love it.

My dad has done the opposite of Settle, ended up about 20 minutes outside Ripon. Top of a hill (last place was the bottom of a hill and it flooded, a lot, 8 times in 3 years, twice it flooded before they’d fixed the damage from the previous flood!)

My brother has bought his “forever home” about 20 minutes from my dad too.

Got York and Leeds within easy distance and (due to precise choice of location) good rail and bus links.

I’m looking for a place near the Swedish lakes, Lidköping maybe…
