Wife wants a panoramic roof for mini me. Preferably some type of family suv type. Qasqai is the only one I know off. Any others?

    Great idea

    Poorly executed.

My parents range rover – the only vehicle that in winter is wetter than my 90……

Condensation/frost forms on the inside of roof when parked ….. Even with the roof blind shut you go round corner and you get a wet leg.

Are panoramic roofs practical with kids – too hot in summer ? Seem to remember with my kids having sun screens on most of the windows when they where small,

my sexy peugeot 5008 has one

never frosted over (though we’re talking southampton here) or leaked

Surprising how rarely I leave it open though – car gets like an oven in summer or even sunny autumn/spring days, and I’m forgetful so it mostly stays shut. Nice and bright in winter though.

My old 307 estate had it. The only thing I missed about the mobile money pit

not sure how old or new you’re looking at but i saw a few Smax’s with them when I was looking for one. Looked good but we went for a normal one in the end.

Wouldn’t recommend it though, mine is thirsty with a capital T, drives ok, more like a Focus than an SUV

My old smax had one. The kids loved it at night stargazing.

Wasn’t hot at all as it had uv filtering or something.

Don’t think we ever closed the blind over it.

Renault Scenic has one as an option:

(Edit: OK, that’s perhaps more of a double sunroof)

Yeah, tons of them. Cmax has them too. FWIW I really like them for the kids and was keen to get one if possible, but didn’t in the end up.

In summer you can open them up and get some fresh air into the car without buffeting the kids the way front windows would (probably varies from model to model but the one on my Legacy was good). It’s particularly good if your kids suffer from travel sickness as the kind of doppler effect you sometimes get with the windows down seems to set them off but the pano roof doesn’t.

PS. Quashqaui felt like a turd to drive.

VW Touareg. Panoramic comes as standard on the R-Line version.

Never had a condensation problem in two years of owning it and it’s tinted so the car doesn’t get too warm either.

Pretty much every current Mercedes has a pano roof as an option. Got one on my C-class. Also all current Jaguars and most BMW too.

    Evenin. Stones and …hmmm

It does happen. Google panoramic roofs and stone chips or cracks.

307 SW had one. Great car did 145000 miles and never missed a beat. Kids loved it and it was huge with the seats removed.

We have one on our s-max. I love it, makes the car feel nice and light. It’s also good for seeing what straps are flapping when carrying Kayaks or checking bikes are OK when they are on the roof.

We have one on our Skoda Yeti. Had it in the last yeti as well. And the x-trail before that. I really like them, make the car so much lighter even when there isn’t much light. Rarely fully open it – bloody noisy. No issues with any of the three we’ve had. This one is a bit clever and closes itself when a) it gets too hot b) it’s night-time and c) for no obvious reason whatsoever.

Being a country boy, I did get mildly discombobulated driving through London at night with all that light pollution 😉

Check you can fit roofbars if you might ever want to; some don’t allow it.

I did hear of someone who got one of the first Evoques, ordered more than a year before, with a lovely panoramic roof. A week later a tile falls off his roof, straight through the car’s glass roof. Factory is flat out making new Evoques, no spare parts available yet – it sat at the dealer for months until they could get their hands on one to fit.

Remember too that the roof isn’t included under the usual glass cover (cheap/free chip repair, low excess it needs replacing, usually no effect on no claims) so any damage and you’ll be claiming as if it was a body panel.
