need to replace a sram x-gen front mech. looking on crc and wiggle, theres top pull, bottom pull, top swing, bottom swing, conventional etc

and ive never really understood the terms.

i understand the top pull etc as thats where the cable comes from.

but i not understand the swing. i read up and it seems something along the lines of where the pivot is in relation to the clamp? but i dont know why i would want one or the other. is it a hardtail/full suss thing?

anyone help out here? and tell me what i need to replace the x-gen?

its for a moots YBB which is 35mm clamp size apparently.

and its a top pull for starters 🙂

(usually) full sussers with raised chainstays or pivot points on the seattube sometimes can't fit a conventional front mech as something's in the way where the band needs to go round seattube. top-swing have lower bands, so sometimes can fit under what originally was in the way*

Some people think topswing ones go wobbly sooner, I've never had a problem but I ride a lot less than just about all you lot

* I think 😯
