hi guys im giving my bike a good clean down after a good run at afan and i wanna take my pads out to clean up as there is grit in there the last time i did that the brakes needed bleeding as the lever went right back to the handle i pumped them and they where not as good as they where hence the bleed , is the somthing im missing doing when i remove the pads as it cant be right to bleed them every time i remove the pads ????

If there was air sitting in the reservoir previously, when you turned the bike upside down and pulled the lever/pushed the caliper pistons, the air would then be allowed to enter the pressurised side of the system. Once properly bled and free of air, it shouldn’t happen, but rather than chance it, you could work on it upright.

You shouldn’t need to as they aren’t pushing against the disc. Or are they?
