...as title. It's an "old" type with the laser etching.

I wasn't aware that any ti frames were heat treated, nor that it was possible.

It was news to me too. I've just had a bit of welding done on a frame and the materials expert recommended it go in the oven for a couple of hours to stress-relieve it next time they had it fired up. Drawback being that if it wasn't done after it was originally built it could possibly cause some distortion.

A built frame heat treated? Doesn't sound right to me.

I was under the impression that Titanium was heat-treated in much the same way as Aluminium to achieve higher strength for the same weight, but I've never looked into it in depth. I assume this is normally done to the metal before welding (most high strength aluminium is sold treated), and that the loss of strength at the welds is accepted. However, I seem to recall that Orange heat treat some welded frame parts to guarantee that the whole structure is as strong as the original metal. Interested to know what the real answer is. Cy?

as a materials scientist/metallurgist I can tell you that lots of titanium alloys are heat treatable and are heat treated post welding, dunno about what happens in the bike industry on this material though. If it isn't heat treated then it's likely there is some economic reason..
