Looking to save space, in my mind they all judder along and are painful to live with, is this still true?

We have wooden sliding doors between the living room and the rear living room (office / snug /dining room – delete too taste) . They don’t judder, possibly as they hang from their runners.

    Ours recess into stud walls.

He wants to save space but it sounds like he’s after something a bit bigger.

We use Eclisse pocket doors and there’s no judder on those.

We’ve got a bi-fold on the internal kitchen door, top hung* and slides nice.

*Well, tip slider, it’s fixed top and bottom on one side.

Hanging sliders mean the weight of the door pushes over the friction of the runners. Floor runners get crud on them and the wheels judder against these.

I fitted 2 pocket doors back in 2017, still running smooth and are a life saver in a house where the old door swings were an absolute pain. I was moving / rebuilding stud walls so it was easy enough to integrate them, not always the case though! I just used some pocket door kits, but there are also some options for top-hung sliders that sit on the face of the wall rather than running into the wall.

Yep, mine are just fine.  They initially were a pain as the ‘installers’ didn’t read the instructions properly but once I corrected that they have been great
