    It looks like the Cane Creek on my Giant Trance only has a bottom bearings ring that go onto the bottom of my Fox F100 forks.

    they would need the race for the bearings to run against, without them the bearing have nothing to press against…

    Only headset I know of without is the Nicolai Fett set.
