I’ve installed and uninstalled so many bits of software and I’m struggling

This setup is for a live band, with 4x RGB strip (tubes), we will potentially add more

The idea is that we have some on stage lighting that does simple stuff (colour change, basic effects with the music)

I had them working on a trial of EMU but the effects were a bit too subtle – there was no ‘off’ between transitions but just a fade

It also only worked as a predefined prog, not audio reactive

Looking at getting licensing but want to make sure it’s worth it and that I can use it!

I want dmx software that does the following:

Must work with Enttec DMX Pro

    – Song list (programs) that I can define which fixtures are used

    – For each fixture (generic RGB) I want to define which colour(s) to be used

    – For each fixture & colour, I want to set the effect (could be flashing/wave or colour change)

    – For each of the above I want to be able to apply additional scenes e.g. chasers across defined fixtures

    – Ideally the effect(s) can be triggered by audio (live) and have the option of predetermined

    – These must be able to be preset and saved as a set and then cues by external device (foot pedal)

To set this up, it needs to be simple and intuitive and stable and not need a degree in lighting design – I’ve tried many and none meet the criteria

I just want to select the song, pick the lights, set the colours, select the effect, save and go…

    Suggestions please!

    Thanks

I know a lot about dmx, (but I wouldn’t call myself an expert).

Dmx itself is just a signal protocol (just like USB)

What I think you’re after is a lighting controller that spits out dmx protocol – I’m guessing running on a laptop with a dongle?

The specifics of what you’re asking is actually quite complicated – I’m paying guys £300-350 a day to program what you’re asking for on control surfaces that cost the price of a decent car.

As you already have the lights – I’d say look at Avolites Titan mobile, Chamsys, Vista by ChromaQ or if you’re feeling spendy – MA on PC. You will have to put the work in to program your show though.

If you don’t yet have too much cash invested in the lights themselves, then look at Astera – there’s a whole ecosystem of kit – spots, tubes, battens, panels – that works off a phone/tablet app that will let you do most of what you want, and as a side benefit most of it is battery powered, so setup and strike times are minimal.

The bit that will take some thought is triggering cues off a footpedal as that’s not a usual thing – you might be able to do something clever through MIDI or timecode if you use that elsewhere in your band.
