We will be in touch
To deal with some condensation problems around the single glazed windows Miss K has just bought a dehumidifier. She ran it in the bedroom for about 4 hours last night and then ran it all night in the lounge. Today I feel like I have a hangover and my skin feels like parched leather.
Does anyone here use a dehumidifier and can give me some pointers?
Don't run it in a house when people are asleep!! We run ours during the day when the place is empty
Don't worry Mrs.T tried that stunt once too!!! 😳
close the door on it. It will work better.
There should be a humidity setting so it will shut itself off when the water content of the air falls sufficiently.
We use one fairly regularly because of the house design and the weather.
Now and then I heat the house to 21degs then open all the windows and air. Warm moist air is replaced with cooler drier air.
We work from home so only have the heating on v low during the day but with the windows closed. not ideal for humidity.
Does it have a RH meter on it?
55-60% is good

I'm going to borrow a dehumidifier as we have a condensation problem - I assume if it cuts off automatically below a certain RH, there is no problem running it through the night?
Also, what is the power rating for one of these things (say one designed for a 3-bedroom house)?
I'm not sure how they're classified but we have one on our landing that was supposed to be the right size for 4 bedrooms power rating is 520W
520W is going to work out quite expensive then if it's on for a large part of the day.
How many hours a day would you say it was on for?

We have it on from 7am until 10pm - but it cuts in & out as needed, if you have doors & windows open it'll be on quite a bit
I suggest if it's on quite a bit BECAUSE you have the doors and windows open then it's set way too high! Normal practice (which has worked quite well for hundreds of years), would be to open windows to dry the house out. - Not open them, and try to dehumidify the outside air!
The wife did exactly the same when we got ours, switched it on then opened all the windows & then buggered off to work for the day.
Outside was lovely & dry when I got home though 😕
There's no meter on this one. Luckily it's quite mild today so I've had the windows open - head starting to clear a bit now. This is going to take some getting used to.
