if you dont mind sharing, what would you reconmend?
looking for ideas on
beaches (dog friendly)
good pubs / cafes – maybe with sea views
beautiful scenery
pasty stops
lovely harbours
standing stones / accident monuments
any sugestions welcome and appreciated
many thankstuboflardFull MemberIt kind of depends where you’re staying as it’s a big place and takes some time to get around. But we stopped down near Lands End this year, so..
Beaches, Sennen and Gwenver are good for dogs though during September on Sennen they’re only allowed on before 10am and after 6pm. Gwenver they’re allowed all day. Gwithian beach is lovely too, but not sure of the dog rules on there (we were there out of season).
The Rock Pool Cafe in Mousehole is right on the coast and serves beer and wine too. Argoe is in Newlyn harbour and does great food, as does Mackerel Sky in Newlyn (obviously almost entirely seafood). Had one of the best pasties ever at Wavecrest cafe at the Lizard, makes a lovely walk from Kynance Cove.
The walk from Mousehole to Lamorna along the coast path is wonderful too and is usually pretty quiet out of peak season.
munrobikerFree MemberYeah, where are you staying? We go every September to see friends and love it. Our taste is for the south coast but I think most people prefer the north.
ampthillFull MemberYep a starting point would help
Park at lizard point and walk to Kynance cove
Tintagel is amazing
halifaxpeteFull MemberWe’ve stayed near Bude in October the last few years, Tintangel is a good shout, brilliant walk from the village down towards ‘rocky valley’ then on the coast path back towards the castle. Walked some other bits of the coast path too they were all nice provided the weather plays ball! I prefer the quiter vibe of Cornwall when it’s out of season.
theotherjonvFree Memberif weather’s good and something good is on, seeing something at the Minack is amazing.
My son’s in a show at end of Oct…. if anyone wants a recommendation.
2binnersFull MemberWe’ve just arrived in Charlestown. We stayed here last September and it was ace. The weather was scorchio so we just did loads of coastal walks, finishing at nice pubs. I took the road bike and got a few leisurely jaunts in. I’ve got the hardtail with me this year for some gravelly type stuff
This is my view for the next week. Just popping out to the pub overlooking the beach for a Rattler. Cheers all! 😀
posty540Free MemberThanks so far all.
Tintagle is on the list.
Gwenver looks stunning and dog friendly.
Think we’ll spend a day on the Lizard peninsula, so a stop at the Wavecrest cafe looks good.
Quite correct, we’re based near Altarnun, NE edge of Bodmin moor, but do not mind driving.
If you’d be so kind, please keep the suggestions coming.
munrobikerFree MemberIn that neck of the woods I’d recommend –
– Lanhydrock
– Looe
– Anthony
– Bodmin and Wenford Steam Railway
– Fowey
– Boscastle and the museum of witchcraft
– Bedruthan steps (or almost any other bit of the South West Coast path, usually best walked out and back)
I’d avoid Port Isaac and Padstow, not because they’re bad (they are lovely) but they will be overwhelmingly busy at this time of year. The nicest time we’ve had in Padstow was in February this year.
1DelFull MemberWe’ve been to teneriffe campsite a couple of times. It’s nt. Near mullion. Not much there TBH but it’s handy for the lizard etc. and it’s a decent site. Stopped near treen though camped at another site we could get in to (I’ll dig out the name if you need it) that gave similar access to the coastal path and we walked over to porthcurnow which has the minac and the telegraph museum.
The lizard is spectacular for sure but south Devon has equally good scenery in my admittedly biased view.
Pz_SteveFull MemberIf you’re staying near Altarnun the far west and particularly the Lizard will be a bit of a mission to get to. The A30 upgrade makes a big difference but there’s still a long way further to go for Gwenver or Kynance, for example. I’d be inclined to explore nearer to your base.
Bodmin moor will be on your doorstep and west Dartmoor is going to be easier to get to than west Cornwall. Anywhere on the coast path tends to get pretty quiet once you get more than half a mile from the nearest car park.
I don’t know the beaches there too well (I’m in Penzance), but down here the beaches are much quieter in September. The weather’s usually better than August, too.

what’s it like in the last week of October?!?
jam-boFull Memberwhat’s it like in the last week of October?!?
there will be weather. It’s unlikely to snow.
creakingdoorFree MemberFully recommend Clair and Ben at Encounter Cornwall in Golant if you want to try SUP or go on some kayak tours along the Fowey estuary. Lots of little creeks to explore at high tide. https://www.instagram.com/paddlecornwallsup?igsh=MTA1bmxvdDA0a283cA==
Also Lerryn for a visit as it’s such a beautiful little hamlet. There’s the remains of a 19thC theme park lost in the trees too if you fancy an explore to find it.
zippykonaFull MemberGreat food with an amazing view from llewenick Lodge west pentire.

When we were here this time last year it was a freakishly warm 27 – 28. It’s about 23 I’d say at the moment. Apparently August has been awful. It’s rained a lot. I got a little potter down the coast in this morning before it got too warm
Charlestown harbour is bloody lovely. What a great place for lunch. There’s a selection of street food stalls all selling local produce, mainly fresh seafood. We’re presently full of lovely fresh crab and squid which was absolutely delicious, eaten out of plastic trays and washed down with a cider while sat by the harbour. Perfect!
Shall I stop with the updates now? 😀
Weather doesn’t look too great tomorrow so we’re considering the Eden Project
