Off on a (non-biking) trip to Conwy this weekend and looking for ideas of stuff to do around the Conwy area. Apart from an obvious visit to the castle, walking in Snowdonia and maybe a trip to a beach on Angelsey, anything else worth a look/exploring?

Also looking for a recommendation for a decent (not not mega money though) place to eat of an evening? Pub/restuarant/whatever.

Are you looking for ideas in Conwy or the whole of North Wales, which you have covered by walking in Snowdonia and popping across to Angelsey?

Colwyn Bay mountain zoo. Very good fun and loads of animals. 10 min drive from Conwy. Good fun for the kids. Llandudno is ok for a walk along the front, but be aware it is the retirement capital of north Wales so be prepared for the smell of wee and lavender. Avoid Rhyl and Prestatyn…crap holes…llanberis has some nice places to visit/walks. The slate mine s a good family outing….

Good pub meal :- Castle View in Deganwy (just across the harbour) cracking simple food, better than the average pub mean but not silly Gastro Pub prices. Lovely spot too.
Pen Y Bryn Pub again for really nice above average pub food (In upper Colwyn Bay near the mountain zoo mentioned by the poster above, who also kindly called my home town a craphole)

Deganwy quay is nice but a bit pricey. Pen y Bryn on the heights is rapidly becoming my local at the moment, great ale and nice food. The Mulberry on Conwy Marina is very nice for pub food.

The tour of electric mountain at Llanberis is very interesting for the family. Mountain Zoo very good and only 5 mins walk from the Pen-y-Bryn.

If you head over to Llanberis have a look at the slate mines museum with lots of [truly] awesome machinery and scary visions of how folk worked. The old slate mines hospital is worth a quick look too that is just a walk up the hill above it. Foodwise “The Heights” in Llanberis is pretty good and has games and space for kids.
