My riding kit sounds very much like Ian above –
Windproof bib tights, merino socks, merino long sleeve base (if really cold a short sleeve jersey on top), baggies, Seal Skin gloves and outer shell – either a Gore Phantom softshell or Vaude Tiak.

Merino. Lots and lots of merino.

I’m bored of it now. Need to get t-shirts and shorts out…..

Glacier gloves ftw. To give an idea of how warm they are, this last week has been the first time this winter it’s been cold enough to wear them!. Shimano goretex boots and thick woollie socks below, with army camo goretex trousers over the top to keep the water out.

As long as my feet and hands are warm the rest of me is fine, maybe except for a buff for my face.

I bought some Castelli gear just for my SS. I use their long bibs ( wind stopper and thermal ) merino socks and either their neoprene overshoes or their wind stopper ones, then I use a merino long sleeve T, a LS roadie riding jersey, then either a wind stopper gillet or a Rapha wind stopper rain jacket, then gloves are either neoprene or wind stopper.
The only part of my body that has gotten cold on long SS rides are the tips of my toes and tips of my fingers.

If its proper wet and muddy I use a lot of old kit and just layer up.

It’s similar kit on the roadie but consists of Raphas deep winter tights, merino T, deep winter wind stopper LS jersey or rain jacket, gloves I use my Castellis as above.

One thing that works for me though is embrocation. Rubbing this on pre rides in this horrid cold weather has made my rides soooo much more fun.

Oh, for hats I either use a winter merino beanie or a casquette under my helmet. Or some other thermal beanie I have lying around.
And shades, well clear lens shades, just to keep the wind off my eyeballs.

my bar mounted thermometer shows -10 when riding along the road and it was driving hail today into a coont of a headwind – last night was good , sunny , vents on the smock open and a gert tail wind all the way home – unusual to have easterlys 😀

This old girl has been wearing thin merino base layer, Gore Windstopper jacket, Gore windproof tights, shorts, Goretex gloves, Windstopper buff, Sealskinz light socks.

Absolutely fine apart from my nose and cheeks becoming sore due to the wind chill.
