Heading there in May and struggling to find accommodation in Dolgellau with bike lock ups. Bikers Retreat is full….has anyone a recommendation for inexpensive B&Bs near the town?

There’s only likely to be 4 of us so a massive cottage for the weekend would probably blow the budget!

    Thank you!

    When in May?

Weekend 1 & 2 currently free at my cottage

Big enough for 4 and not expensive if split between 4

3 pubs in the village, curry house, beach etc..

30 min drive though, but also opens up the options of Nant y arian & Mach

Not overly cheap but Old Skool MTB if you can get in. Failing that there’s a hostel in the next town/village north on the A470.

    Stayed here before http://www.logcabinswales.co.uk/

Cabins are fairly basic, but it is about 5 minutes drive from Coed-y-brenin

I’ve stayed at the cabins (http://www.logcabinswales.co.uk/), the hostel in Trawsfynydd (http://trawsfynydd.com/wp/?page_id=158) and at OldSkool (http://www.oldskool-mtb.co.uk/). OldSkool is awesome, but they tend to be booked out for a year in advance. The other two are OK options, both have pubs nearby that serve edible food and drinkable beer. The cabins are slightly more expensive than the hostel, but a bit more comfortable. Also only a short ride away from CyB, with road or offroad options.

Another vote for the log cabins. Stayed there twice, once with logcabinswales.co.uk and once with a private cabin cadairviewlodge.co.uk

They have a 4 man room.
Opposite CYB, but they will normally drop you at the pub, and the landlord bring back.
Ty Seren B&B is ace, is in Dolgellau so you can go out out.
The Ship is inexpensive as well.
All our trips usually go like this:
    £30 accommodation
    £30 booze/food
    £30 petrol
    Each

stayed in the bunkhouse at torrent walk campsite a few weeks ago. 20min walk into Dolgellau from there. Cheap as chips at £12 each per night and they have a shipping container lockup.

Specific bike storage no, back yard yes, with hose, gate could be locked easy enough.

I just put mine there, never any bother in the village, people don’t even lock doors round there.

Big dining room area though, put them inside 😀

We’ve stayed at Plas Isa in Dolgellau a few times for weekends at CyB. Nice spot, and not overly expensive – http://www.plasisa.co.uk/

Glyn-y-Aur is awesome. We’ve stayed their 4 times. You can drop straight into Addams Family off the road up there.

We often stay in Barmouth – only a little further away but loads of BnB options and often a bit more choice for grub n pub.

We have cabins free in May, depends on your dates.
4 can fit in a cabin, right on the trails in the middle of the forest, but only 15 minute drive to town.

Worth resurrecting this just to say thanks to @tiger6791 – cottage was perfectly located and a great place. Managed to ride Nant yr Arian, cows y brenin and climachx – all within half an hour drive… and the bonus being that the beach is only about 100m away to relax at the end of the day.

If anyone is looking to ride those trails then this is as good a place as any. We’re definitely coming back next time…

Another vote for the log cabins. They have everything you need and work out pretty cheap for a group. Good access to the trails and cosy of an evening.

Our two cottages are near Bala – right between North Wales’ finest…
Discount for Singletrack subscribers as well if you ever head this way again.
