They’re no worse than other brands, especially if you keep on top of maintenance and servicing.
I’d avoid any wet belts though. They do cause more when compared to older engines without them.
I’ve owned 30+ cars over the years and the only cars that have broken down and left me by the roadside have been Japanese and German (Toyota, Honda, and VW), whereas none of my french cars have left me stranded.
Ours have been fairly poor, my wife is from a French family so we have a fair amount of French cars. They always seem to be going wrong.
I’ve never known any other modern car to require repeated replacement of an indicator stalk for example.
Also bizarrely for a country that made you carry around lightbulbs in the car, even the most trivial tasks such as changing a headlight bulb are often near impossible to do yourself. E.g. the dipped beam on our Renault Megane required removal of (IIRC) the bumper and wheelarch liner unless you possessed a small child with joint hypermobility and the dexterity of a neurosurgeon.
