Not really taken Baby Nord (Toddler Nord now, tbf) off road, but never bothered with a helmet. For her or for me.

I think I would, if only to associate bikes with helmets as a “good thing” at an early age.

jr wears his helmet no problem now when cycling himself or on the back of the cargo bike. up to 3-4yrs old when they make the transition from trailer to their own bike there’s no real fear of lack of helmet “conditioning”.

My little girl (younger than Kimbers Jnr by the looks of things) doesn’t have a helmet yet. She is in a sling thingie as well, and I think that any helmet would push her head forwards, making it very uncomfortable. Will have a rethink when she is big enough to sit in the seat proper, and the cutout behind her head for the helmet becomes of use.

I do for my little one simply because she gets rattled around a bit off road even on paths that look not too bad and you wouldn’t normally notice biking on your own. I’m running a Chariot Cougar with suspension but the suspension doesn’t iron out the bigger bumps.

For really young kids (ie 6 months or less), I wouldn’t take them off road in a trailer no matter how good the suspension is. Of course, every parent is different so the decision is yours to take. 😀

Stick a helmet on him, put him in the trailer and take a look at his head position.

For me, it meant no helmet in the trailer. They have graduated to seats, like-a-bikes and proper bikes and wear helmets in all of these, but it didn’t look like it was giving any safety benefit in the trailer.

Depends how fast your going! Pad them out for the odd rollover!
