Thinking of the SRAM PC991 Crossstep 9 Speed Chain for my XT/XTR 9 speed and also one for his P7 singlespeed

Would it be OK on both?

    Cheers.

As long as the singlespeed hasn’t got any 1/8″ sprocket teeth then yup it should work. I run a 9 speed chain on a Surly steel ss chainring with no issues (1×9).

Unless your getting them at a great price, I personally don’t run 9-speed chains on my singlespeed though.

Providing he has 3/32 not 1/8 it will work but sounds like the waste of a nice chain, you can probably get a chain perfectly suitable for a singlespeed for perhaps as little as a fiver.

I don’t think you save a great deal of weight with chains either, well not compared to the possible savings on other components.
