Can you tell which brand/model, a frame is by the serial number?

I recently bought a “Giant” full suspension frame and have been adding bits too it as and when I can afford them.

I was really struggling to find a front derailleur that would fit the frame and not clip the rear wheel swing arm.

Eventually I gave up and took it to a LBS who rang giant with the frame number to find which derailleur would fit.
Giant don’t recognise the frame number so obviously it’s not a giant!

    The frame number is AS07050229

    Any help much appreciated.

A picture of the bike may be of more use to us meat mortals on a mountain bike forum. 😉

Apparently the bike you are riding is actually a Triumph Dolomite Sprint. 😉

Lord knows what that is, judging by the shock it’s a supermarket/halfords type bike that’s been resprayed.

You need to have a word with who you bought it off.

Looks like a Giant Trance, circa 2005.

Could it be an older Lapierre X-Control with cheapo shock grafted to it?

Was bought as a giant trance.

But the shock doesn’t pass through the frame as in the one above.

Rear shock was a too short fox vanilla float.
Is now a correct, as best I can tell RP23.

Guy in the shop was convinced it was a Giant before checking! Because of the linkage from bottom bracket to rear swing arm.

The frame in the pics was made by Astro, around 2008-9. It’s similar to the Maestro and they make bikes for a lot of people, a good factory, but it’s not ‘quite’ a Giant.
AS07050229 – usually the maker or brand is the first 2 letters, ie ‘AS’ here backs up that I think it’s a stock Astro frame. I’ve also ridden one so I recognise it.

    edit

I was really struggling to find a front derailleur that would fit the frame and not clip the rear wheel swing arm.

    It’s certainly the Astro then : )

    Cheers mate.
Looks like it’ll have to be run on just two front cogs!

eBay case also opened. As it was cash on collection though. I’m not holding my breath.

Anyone any idea what one of these frames would cost? Or is worth?
Trying to request a partial refund through eBay.
