Calling all Specialized Pitch Riders!

Hi everyone,
I currently ride a Pitch 2010 in medium and love it but have found that being 6’2 I (more so my back) need a large for the uphills. Whilst searching the depths of the internet for large frames I realised that the geometry has changed in the 2011 models. I thought that it was just due to the head angle etc with the longer fork but it seems that from the 2008-10 models the BB has dropped by a whole 11mm. I run offset bushings on mine so I’m sure it works out fairly similarly.
Here are the geometries of both, copied from the Specialized website.

Has anyone ridden both the 2008-10 and the 2011 models? Is there a noticeable difference in the frame? I’m trying do decide between the older and newer geometry.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks a lot,
Huw
thisisnotaspoonFree MemberThey didn’t change the frame, it was just the fork and tyres that changed, some of the older spesh tyres could be really tall, easily enough to drop 11mm.
And don’t forget fashion, easy enough to lie in one spec or the other as people accepted/demanded lower BB’s, just re-measure the bike with small tyres, just like weights rarely have any basis on reality.
I’m 6ft and just sold my medium for similar reasons, and it just wasn’t being used enough. Sorely tempted to pick up a large.
hnobleFree MemberOh brilliant! Is that why? That makes my decision a lot easier! Now which colour…. haha
You should do, they’re brilliant bikes! You should have a look at offset bushings too if you haven’t already.
Cheers!
thisisnotaspoonFree MemberNow which colour
Buy an old blue comp model, they barely sell on ebay for more than the frame’s and bin the bits, then get it sprayed. Flamejob off here had a white one with white 36’s and a ti coil spring, and it looked jawdroppingly good.
hnobleFree MemberThat sounds like a plan to me! I’m thinking of a more stealthy look. If only they had tapered head tubes for some new pikes.
chipFree MemberThey quote different chainstay lengths and despite one having a bb lower by 11mm there is only a 2mm difference in standover.
hnobleFree MemberSee that’s what I thought! I’m glad you think so too. Surely the frame measurements/geo are conducted from the frame alone, apart from all of the components.
thisisnotaspoonFree Memberdifference in standover.
I’m sticking with my first answer, and adding and where would you measure the standover? It’s such a U-shaped top tube that if you lowered the rear by 11mm or so, and raised the front by a similar ammount it would probably even out anyway.
Easy enough too to move the point front/back a bit, measure chainstays horisontaly, or actualy, static or sagged at either. I had a green one from new, and was told at the time it was the same as the ‘old’ one appart from the forks jacking the front up slightly. The spesh manual even referenced it as 2008-2011 (or whatever the dates were) so they weren’t distinguishing between them.
They only ran it for a year in green, if it really was a ‘new’ frame I think they’d have run it much longer, especialy as it was getting such good press, whereas retireing it at 4 year sold seems more likely.

Aww shucks!
I’m 5’11” and mine’s a small. I adore this bike and have had several others in the mean time (including an Intense and a SB66) and its still my fave. I went to Mont St Anne on it for the World Cup a few weeks ago and rode the mountain. Love it.
I might write the story of it because the latest is I rebuilt it before MSA from this:
(yes, those are Met Police evidence bags and tags…

chipFree MemberIf you were going to raise the front you would have to drop the rear by quite a bit more than 11 mm to achieve an 11mm drop in bb.
Also if you dropped the rear and raised the front it would change the head tube angle.
I don’t mean to call you a liar, but it does not make sense to me.
But that said I do know the genius of marketing men. (And women)
