foolishly forgot to cancel the auto-renewal for auto-national and it renewed a couple of days ago.  used to cost me around £40 when it was auto-aid, the age of the car now dictates over £90, so we were going to shop around.

theyve stated that as they sent me a reminder a couple of weeks ago that we would need to pay a cancellation fee now.  something at the back of my mind tells me that you can cancel any policy within 14 days free of charge for any reason at all, but google just pulls up insurance policy bumph rather than breakdown.

am i too late?  got to just suck it up now?

I had this with RAC and made a complaint. they didn’t uphold it because I’d been told it would auto renew, but they did refund me because I’d requested cancellation on the 14th day after renewalk, so just go ahead and ask to cancel and if they say no , complain.

I had this with Auto Aid, although as I got a newer car I managed to lop off the extra bit for cars over 16? years old.

It’s still cheaper than other breakdown cover tho, also I had AA cover one year and got constantly bombarded with phone calls with them trying to upsell me higher standards of cover plus, home, life etc insurance, at least Auto Aid have never done that sort of stuff, used them loads in the older car and even a mates borrowed car and always been good.

I was autorenewed by auto aid, saw the cancellation fee was c50% of annual fee.  Complained, internal complaints person agreed all t and Cs adhered to.

Read reviews, saw on letterhead they are regulated by someone, so I gave them another chance to cancel or I d complain to regulatory body.  They refunded in full.

This was when they changed to autorenew by default, they said they d emailed me before.  My issue was the magnitude of cancellation fee.

I now pay c30 quid pa on car insurance for breakdown cover.
