  • Bottom bracket drop on 29er hardtail and other geometry puzzles.

Looking for a new, not too expensive 29er hardtail. I like the look of the Pinnacle Ramin 3 at £1350 and the Boardman MHT8.9 at £1000. It might be a while before I can get even a quick ride on one, but looking at the geometry charts on both of them there are some things I would like to figure out. First, the Pinnacle has a really slack seat angle at 71.5 (I thought seat angles were getting steeper) secondly and most puzzling the Boardman has a bottom bracket drop of only 17mm, when most bikes of this type seem to be in the range of 50-65mm drop. I know you shouldn’t take one aspect of a geometry chart in isolation but that does seem very shallow. Would there be a reason for that or a mistake? Is there a benefit to having a shallow bottom bracket drop? Any thoughts? Also the slack seat angle on the Pinnacle, a benefit v much steeper seat angles such as on a Kona Honzo.
