I’ve just been to do this earlier today and really enjoyed it. If there’s one by you, it’s worth the 3 hours just in case your mate goes down when you’re out or you come across an accident when out on the roads.

There’s also relevance for cycling if you or a friend come a cropper while out.

They are free and run by your local fire station.
The ones in London are funded by TFL.

I did it a few years ago so agree with you here.  Certainly recommended.

Mine was held by North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue.

Hope I never need to put it into practice and now know when to leave the helmet on or remove, which is undoubtedly the most common question!

Did an MTB/cycle modified one with local fire folk a few years ago (10+years) one Thursday evening, our MTB group went for a weekend away on the Friday to 7 Staines, all good, on Monday on way back we did Mabie MTB, 3/4 way round I eased back (in third place out of 4 riders) to allow room to ride, 2nd placed rider went down ahead of me round a bend, I didn’t see it happen, but on approach to person laid very still on ground something not right!!

Long story short, had phone signal phoned 999 and was talked through advice for 2-3 minutes, fallen rider was then responding and breathing and so I was relieved, 999 folk said ambulance on way and ended call. Once awake so to speak, Mate kept asking what happened, but you could tell he was not taking reply’s in, but he was alive!!

Ambulance arrived approx 35-40 mins later (later learnt that I could have phoned 999 back for an update but I didn’t think of this, lesson learnt),  I walked down to meet them and at the same time could hear a Heli-med arrive and land in a clearing nearby, response = 2 trauma Drs and 2 paramedics in Amblulance.

Anyway mate gets helicopter ride to Glasgow and has bleeding on the brain, he’s fine now just can’t remember the incident!

The training was useful to keep calm, must look for another local one as a refresher and for M’Bikes. Good reminder.

Not heard of this but will look it up – got a normal first aid qualification for work and had to use it last year when a rider went over the bars in front of me, need to refresh/extend my knowledge as the bugger is back out riding with us!

Excellent PSA. Will look to see if Durham or T&W do similar. Thanks!

Whilst I applaud your community sprit, having just been staying in Glenridding for the last 10 days I think the best option to reduce motorcycle accidents would be to roadblock the Kirkstone Pass and stop anyone with modded pipes and a black visor, confiscate and crush their bike and make them walk back to Warrington from the top.
