There was lots of such stuff in the earlier days of Oz.

Framebags have made a comeback along with seat packs, that’s about it. 20 years ago we used rucksacks, 20 years before that it was panniers.
I think it’s save to assume though that Maurice up there hasn’t got a tent in that frame bag. Probably just his baccy pouch, a flask of laudanum and enough whizz to get him to the auberge in the next alpine village. Oh and probably a jacket for dinner.Posted 3 years ago
Now we know where Rapha got the idea for their tweed caps.Posted 3 years ago
probably a jacket for dinner.
@trailofdestruction, is that an early Slingshot bikepacking specific bike there? Also, footpegs on the forks……! #ballsofsteelPosted 3 years ago

Two guys on the left are holding hands. Gentleman on far right is either Louchey Mc Loucheface or has been spurned into epic sulk.
Also – some spidery tubing going on thereabouts and what looks like an early Slingshot frame!Posted 3 years ago

And now you see why STW is so witty.. we have time to carefully craft and refine a response.. as long as people don’t jump in too quickly…Posted 3 years ago
Louchey McLoucheface would never edit his posts.Posted 3 years ago

I’m enjoying that pic immensely. All our bikes are now missing mid-fork foot pegs. We became unrelaxed?Posted 3 years ago
Nice and wide sweepy bars.Posted 3 years ago

No; someone invented the freewheel – so now you don’t have to take your feet off the pedals when coasting downhill at speed 8)Posted 3 years ago

They also appear to be doing the most awesome trackstand.Posted 3 years ago
I like the above pics 🙂
It really is a good example of clever marketing, taking something that already exists, re-branding it, and selling it on as a new phenomenon. Same as gravel bikes really….
Suckers!Posted 3 years ago
Photo I posted was taken in 1898 in Norway. Probably find some hipster in Hoxton still looking like Louchey McLoucheface today.
As above, nothing is ever new.
As for balls of steel, nothing beats the old TDF guys

^^^ there’s a new niche right there, jersey pockets of the FRONT of a jersey, so you can actually reach/see what your doing!!! Quick – market it!Posted 3 years ago
smoking and drinking beer, the best way to conduct a cycle tour!Posted 3 years ago
I have a L’eroica jersey with pockets on the front – once you’ve ridden a merino jersey in the rain with front pockets laden and stuff bouncing off your knees, you realise why it didn’t catch-on. Besides, top riders had domestiques to carry all their stuff for them – so they got rid of their front pockets to show their status.Posted 3 years ago
On the subject of front fork pegs, at the Retroronde there was a guy with a 1890s fixed-gear bike with solid tyres, wooden-rims, rod-brakes and fork-pegs – he’d get to the top of a hill and just let-go….terrifying
Is that spare tubes they are carrying like a backpack?Posted 3 years ago
Great pictures, chaps. Really inspiring. Keep them coming 🙂Posted 3 years ago

Tubs not tube, its the whole tyre with tube sewn in then you have to stick it to the rim.Posted 3 years ago
