each to their own indeed. just find it amusing when the top of glentress looks like everest base camp, with 50 riders all decamping and redressing for a 5 minute downhill!

then presumably stopping and getting changed again as soon as it rises up!

Ali frames are more or even as comfortable as Ti ones.

Had to add as my Pace RC300 could rattle loose the fillings on anyone within 5m of her!
    Ti + 29 = buttery smoooooooth!

    Rubbish.

Ti is not inherently smooth, it can just be used to be so (and not always done so, even when claimed)

29ers are typically smoother though but again, the frame design will have a large influence on that.

There is nothing wrong with body armour.

Nothing. So what if someone wears it at a trail centre. Are you going to pay his mortgage for him?

If the people against body armour are soo good why do you wear helmets and gloves?

That most of us will never hit anything like the limits of our bikes

That it's about anything other than having fun

That better equipment can make you a better rider

That riding a bike is a "challenge"

That full body armour is required for a bit of local XC (I am coming round to knee pads being useful for some)

I once heard someone claim an SS to be significently quicker round a trail centre than a geared bike..

Scratched my head a bit at that one..

That having full sus/disc brakes/etc automatically make every aspect of riding X percent easier. I have proved this theory by being equally shonky on any bike 🙂

That you have to lube your chain before every ride (I've switched to putoline chain wax*).

Not quite had the confidence to leave it for more than a month without giving it a dip, but it still feels gummy/tacky after that time so must be doing tis job.

*for those of you who dont know MX or classic motor bikes, this is a horrible, sulphurus waxy lube not to dissimilar to a gear oil (but obviously heavier) and full of graphite/carbon. You melt the tin (the size of a tin of roses but only 2" deep) on the stove and dip the chain in before hanging it up to drip the excess off. Best done outdoors, when no ones in as the smell is an aquired taste.

That any type of cycle specific clothing can look 'cool down the pub'
That rotational injuries are a significant cause of rider damage
That a bike designed in a shed is better than one designed in an office
That it's possible to be 'overbiked'
That frame material is more important than frame design
That riding round a field for a day is 'enduro'

Funny thread – many statements people claiming as bollox that are proven to be true. – and scotchegg – how about not inventing things I say? I say plenty of stuff without you inventing things.

    hmmm on padding…

that d30 will save you from anything…

from bike radar: "Impact absorption is down on the Kyle Strait, because It doesn’t have the hard plastic insert"

well the kyle strait insert is made of a plastic softer than tuppaware… so…

Are you sugesting that it is inadequate to meet the transport needs of a modern society, or that they are ridden by people with big feet and red noses?
