Ideally would like Xcom but my Nexus won't support it so have downloaded a couple of games that are supposed to be similar - Baldur's Gate ( bugger all like it ) and Shadowrun Returns ( complete gash ).
So what is the nearest to xcom or valkyrie chronicles?

Only real UFO a like on android is Xenowar. Simpler but still a bit of casual fun.
And yes, Shadowrun is ace.
Are you looking for single player or multiplayer?
There's some great board game conversions on Android at the moment (and annoyingly, many more on iOS). The aforementioned Small World and Ticket To Ride jump to mind.

Plague Inc is a fun little turn-based game.
The Room is a worth a look.
Keep an eye on www.humblebundle.com - they do Android bundles from time to time. (That's where I got The Room from, iirc.)
