Whats the best Sand Type to put an Above Ground Pool on? Is it building sand?

I have been watiching quite a few YT videos on it and plan to put sand down covered with webbing, pool on Top and decorative stones around the pool

    sharp sand.

Sharp sand is angular and interlocks so it doesn’t flow. Builders sand turns to liquid and runs out when it gets wet (from rain i mean but also i imagine a pool us a wet splashy business.?

You probably want to look removing the topsoil and adding  a layer of sub base below that unless you know the soil can take ALOT of constant pressure. Or you’end up with an uneven pool base and a a great big soggy undrainable divot in your garden.

For different option on this type of stuff. Paving expert is king. ( Not the pool aspect but what the layers and alternatives to sand are)

Eg granite dust etc can be a good alternative.

Great, so there is already a base layer of MOT down so the idea was to just put some sand on top of the MOT

Yeah then you want sharp sand to an even ish thickness.

What’s the size of the pool? We had a 3x2m one. First year I put some fairly thin laminate floor underlay below it for insulation. Direct on to very compact top soil. It was OK but very hard on the bottom. The next year I got some foam floor tiles from Halfords (the foam ones, not harder rubber) and it made the bottom of it a lot nicer to walk/land on. Especially on your knees as it really wasn’t very deep for an adult. Probably helped more with insulation and heat retention.

just put ours up for the third year. it’s a bestway 16′ x 8′ one with a steel frame. for the first two years I put a layer of the halfords garage mats on top of levelled, well compacted soil for a combination of insulation and protection from stones from beneath.

there are 12 supports that can dig into the ground when it gets wet and these were squashing the mats and letting soil up through the gaps. Made cleaning the liner before packing away for the winter a real ball-ache.

This year, I put a layer of fake grass on top of the garage mats, plus 2′ all around to try and keep it clean and look much smarter. Going well so far.

the mats are frequently on special offer (2 packs for £20 or similar, sometimes a bit less). Grass varies dramatically. depending on the shape/size you might be able to get an offcut. I went for the second cheapest as not aiming for super realistic or nice to walk on etc and i thing it was about £4.50 a square meter.
