What’s a good tape for a commuter? One that will stand up to getting wet and people being careless in the bike shed? My cinelli gel cork stuff seems to unravel where my hand twists in the drop to push the sti.

Any, they’re pretty much all the same, so get the cheapest. Then wrap it properly.

    Then wrap it properly.

If the tape is coming loose through normal usage, it’s not been put on properly

Are you wrapping it in the correct direction?

I did wonder if direction made a difference. Just been looking at other bike but there seems to be a fair mix. I wondered if the gel pads underneath might have something to do with the slip.

I use gel pads on the tourer/commuter. As long as the tape is applied correctly – and at sufficient tension – it should stay in place. BTW – you might want to try Lizard Skins DSP tape.

i find the lizard skins stuff lasts phenomenally longer than other cork etc

Aye – it’s a bit more expensive, but it does last longer.

Cheers guys. I’ve refitted the old stuff a bit tighter. If that fails, I’ll have a closer look at the lizard skin stuff.

Charge, Pro, SOMA and DEDA on my bikes, all good.
