I need to wipe my my Motorola phone and send off for a screen repair.

Is there a way to back it up so I can restore it exactly as it was when it returns?

I’m thinking particularly about 2FA stuff and banking apps which were a pain to get over to this phone from the last.

Thanks. Says that’s been backing up so hopefully will fully restore.

You should explicitly be able to back up MFA recovery keys from within the app.

All of this should be synced up to Google anyway, unless you’ve gone out of your way to knobble it.  When my better half changed phones recently the only glitch was WhatsApp, that has its own backup/restore and without it she was missing her most recent messages.

Assuming you’re sending it somewhere trustworthy, don’t wipe it.

You’d think so – but when I moved phone the MS Authenticator work ones for ‘work or school’ accounts came across but with ‘Action required’ – and I have to ‘Scan the QR code provided by your organization to finish recovering this account’. I have 10 of these for different organisations and it was a right pain getting them re-enabled.

Yeah definitely I’d a factory reset on it before sending off.

As above.. Back it all up to Google, as you already have a Google account… You have to have one to use android properly.

Log into your Google account on a pc and check it’s all backed up properly.

Last time I switched phones.. It downloads all your apps, settings and contacts etc.

It’s pretty seamless assuming the backups are recent and are including what you want.

    2FA stuff

I never knew Google backed that stuff up?

Mine did but it was a pixel 4 to a pixel 7, and using Google authenticator app.

Might be more difficult with a different 2fa app…

    Well, I’ll be…

Never even heard of that app. I am on and will be on Pixels for the foreseeable as they are so ruddy good.

Does the app need to be installed all the time or just before backing up?

    Cheers.

Assuming that it’s locked (why wouldn’t it be) it’s unlikely that a repair shop is going to break out the forensics kit to get your Facebook password whilst replacing a screen.

    It doesn’t.

    Mine did. YMMV.

No perhaps not but they just might for banking access. You never know what’s going to happen to it and it could be beyond repair. If you wipe it (like they all suggest) then there can be no issue. Only time is consider not doing that is it it was repaired Infront of me.

I reality I’d probably buy a new one, transfer then repair and sell the old one.
