Our pond has one goldfish in it…

This goldfish used to share a tank in the house with another goldfish (which died), but she outgrew the tank. So it was then moved to the pond from the tank. Apart from the dead one it has never been in with any other fish, so how have we suddenly got baby fish!

There are at least 6, maybe more.

When did you put the fish in the pond? Is it possible that you’ve taken some of the water from the tank, which may have had a few fertilised eggs floating about in it, into the pond water?

My uncle had this but never had any fish in in the beginning.
Eggs on plants was the only explaination. They were black at first then turned gold.

My dad has a water trough at the top of the garden for the vegetable patch and found a fish in there last year which was pretty random

When did the other one die? Did you transfer anything else like plants?

Just before we transferred it from the tank. The other had loads of growths on it so we thought it best to remove the healthy one and put it in the pond.

I don’t think they actively set out to transport them 😉 they get caught up on feet and feathers etc and just get transported. Bit like pollen but eggs.

It’s a well known fact that birds despise fish. Kidnapping defenseless youngsters from their poor parents and then dumping them somewhere remote is the bird’s idea of fun.

or if you transferred the fish with some tank water its likely some eggs came too if they had spawned. my pond goldfish spawned but we had hundreds as a result. they start off brown then turn coloured quite a bit later, eventually all got predated though.
