I work in an engineering office but aren’t a trained engineer in the strictest sense. For my own interest and maybe in anticipation of going on to a college course for AutoCAD use, does anyone out there know of any free downlaods that “mimic” AutoCAD? I’d just like to have a play at doing some drawings and getting the hang of it.

    Cheers

I suggested tigercad yesterday, I’ve used it a few times now.

I think, well they certainly used to offer a Student version of Autocad for not a lot of money. That should get you started. What sort of engineering is it as Autocad isn’t a great 3-D modeler.

We’re an Architechtural and Surveying Practice and we use Autocad and Revit for building design. We work closely with one of the larger construction firms and they want to use 4-D programmes – x, y, z & time – to give staged drawings and cost expenditure estimates.

That is as far as my knowledge of CAD packages go.
