So i have decided i want to try and get into riding clipped in. Tried it a few years back with a xc style show and an XC shimano spd pedal and liked it on the uphills but found it a bit unnerving down.

Decided to try it again as i think it is faster riding clipped in. Picked up some AM45s cheap off ebay and am now thinking i should buy a pedal with a decent size body to make me feel a bit more stable on the pedal. Want something fairly light but stil something i can get away with riding with normal shoes occasionaly.

Any recommendations? Also experience of the new mallet e pedals from crank brothers?

    Cheers

I didn’t like the mallet e. The spindles were too short (although you can buy longer ones) and I couldn’t get used to the release mechanism. They felt good when clipped in but my shoe didn’t seem to touch the pins and you still would get away with using flat shoes with them without it feeling very strange underfoot.

You could also look at shimano dx and HT x1 or t1s.
