    Any feedback appreciated…

Wife has just received a booking confirmation email from them – for a holiday we haven’t booked. Email triggered our virus checker as well as concerns over whether any payments have been taken.

I got one of those a few days ago. Just delete it. It caught my eye in the spam filter but had none of my details e.g. name, even.

    Scam.

booking.com is definitely a legit site (used them a few times) but the email must be a scam.

Thanks all. Sounds similar to the email received by hels – no personal details, phishing email

Yup used booking.com last week, all good and very handy to use as a search tool before going direct to actual hotel chains websites!

it is genuine, but i wouldnt ever bother using as they charge the hotels 18% (inc VAT) per booking, so if you call the hotel directly and say you are about to book via booking.com they will usually be please to offer a discount to book direct.

We use booking.com absolutely fine – for hotels in Asia, UK, Denmark and Morzine. It does sound like a phishing email, the criminals fake legitimate sites to get your attention. If you expand the email address in the message header or a link(without following it) you’ll see that it probably comes from somewhere else.

@willit – we’ve generally found booking.com competitive on price and not saved by trying to go direct.

I receive these every so often. I googled them- based in the Netherlands. I also emailed the email address on there- it bounced.

+1 on booking.com being legit and ace. Sounds like phishing to me

One of my old school mates looks after booking.com’s databases so the company is legit – unfortunately scammers have taken to sending you fake “notifications” from them in phishing attempts (and likewise from UPS and FedEx and…)

I think the poster meant it is a genuine site, not that the email to you from them, was genuine, looking at the thread title I reckon they just answered the initial question 🙂

    I use booking.com 3 or 4 times per month
Nothing wrong with the company just a phishing email from someone else by the sound of it

I work in a hotel and would second what Wiilt says.

IIRC rates were 15% + VAT when we used to use them. Other sales ledger types (eg Inntel, Expotel, Hotelscene) charge between 5 and 10% commission.

So, if I was booking, it must be worth a cheeky call direct to the hotel. You never know.

I used them to book a couple of hotels in Germany recently.
