    like this: http://www.velotechservices.co.uk/shop/Vcat3.asp?cat=7382004314

    do you feel a benefit?
how does the 24T Q-ring feel compared to, say, a 32T round ring. Is the Q easier to push through the dead-zone?

    I own one. 36T.
Not so noticeable when spinning or honking, but more noticeable when seated climbing. I like it but probably could live without it.

hmmm, so not much benefit for out-of-the-saddle climbing?

I wouldn’t say “no benefit”, just the elliptical shape is not noticeable, mainly because when out of saddle honking you are rarely pedalling smoothly and with souplesse but more in a power=stall-power-stall kind of motion which masks the effect of the ellipsis.

The “benefit” is the effective ring diameter in the power phase being say, 34, instead of 36T.

If pedalling smoothly while sitting down then yes, you can feel it.

cheers Stoner. I’ve been curious about one of these for a while but can’t quite bring myself to fork out the dosh

Thx, I am finding myself elliptical-curious, though it’s stalling on the short-but-steeps (which is failure to ‘get over the top’ usually) that I’d most need help with I think.

as an aside if the 34T is effectively a 32T in the deadzone and a 36T in the power zone, that seems a huge ranging of gearing in a single crank cycle.

Interesting note here http://www.rotoruk.co.uk/pdfs/qset-upinstructions.pdf about giving your inside and outside leg muscles enough KMs on the rings to balance up.

I went back to a round ring after a few months on a one-key, felt like pedalling squares with no descernable benefit in performance
