Anyone Know About Suspension?

I’ve just dropped the travel on a set of Pike Select+ forks from 140mm to 130mm. The new airshaft had the buttercup on it.

I,ve just taken the bike for a quick ride and found that the file feels fairly soft compared to having thr original shaft fitted, but also finding that I’ve bottomed out a few times on the ride which never happened previously.

currently running HSC, LSC and rebound all about mid way, no tokens and 70psi in the fork.

Would just adding a bit of air pressure help or do I need to look at adding tokens?

Yes, one or both of those depending on what you want.  You will want a little less sag (x% of 130mm rather than 140mm) and possible a token to increase ramp up since you now have a larger positive chamber relative to your travel.  Try stuff and see?

If it’s feeling soft and bottoming out then it probably needs more pressure in it.

Generally as you go down in travel you are more likely to need tokens – the relative size of the air chamber to the travel has increased and thus it becomes more linear.

Forks generally come with more tokens fitted from the factory when they ship in hheir shorter travel configurations.

Start with a little more air to reset your sag, but bear the tokens in mind.

With air pressure increased only, you may find the fork a little firm off the top.

I always say just fanny about with it. Note down your current settings, change stuff. Ideally find a short section that you can ride repeatedly (and enjoy riding) that has a bunch of different riding in it, so you can feel the changes easier. You can learn the theory but pretty much everyone that understands suspension started out by fannying around with it.
