The latest op looks like it is going to be a clean and vac of my left knee. The last couple of arthroscopies I have had have been on my knackered ankle and I was told to keep the weight of it for a 3-5 days. This time the Dr has said 2-3 week recovery period before back to work based activities and perhaps 6 weeks before any sports.

I am fine with not doing sports in the winter but 2-3 weeks off work seems a long time given he knows my job basically involves sitting on my arse in front of the computer at home.

    Is he just being cautious?

Has anyone on here had similar stuff done and how long did it take you to recover?

Diagnosis : Left knee posterior horn medial meniscus tear with flat fragment in notch, grade 2 medial and patellofemoral chondral changes.

When I had similar done, I was signed off work for 2 weeks-mainly cos it was my right knee and I was driving 30mins to work.

Surgeon did say if it was my left knee & I had an automatic car he would have let me go to work.

Although he said to rest a bit, I was still to walk about on it. Can’t remember how long I was off the bike for – poss 6-8 weeks. Healed ok, though I found when walking, sudden changes in direction (like darting between dwardlers in crowds) could jarr it a bit.

Thanks, that is what I hoped. I have an auto car and work from home anyway. I will decide how much time I need/want to take but am sure it will be less that 2-3 weeks.

My boss had asked if I was happy to come to work if they organised a taxi. When he spoke to HR about organising it, they said if I was signed off I wasn’t allowed in the building as it invalidates insurance. Might be different for WFH, but this still seems to be a grey area about corporate responsibility for those WFH.

No, it is absolutely clear, even for working from home. If you are signed off sick, you can’t work at all.
I had long discussions with HR when i snapped my foot off and was in bed for 6 months and then on crutches on and off for 5 years.
I ended up only talking 3 weeks of sick leave, basically long enough to set up my home office in the bedroom, and then returning to work. It was agreed that my boss and i could work out together how much i actually wanted to work. It was a mutually suitable agreement based on trust which worked well.

Probably age related, last time i had this was 15 years ago and i was up and around the same day, only discomfort is the fluid draining, which is more noise than feel!

Was back on the bike in a week, had been signed off for 2 weeks but signed back on after 3 days as it was 100% successful, some folk can get discomfort lasting longer though so you’ll know yourself after a day.
