    Hi

map based xc rider currently on Satmap (*who have gone bust), but after a bar mountable rolling os map that I can view OS 25000 maps on , to be used in conjunction with memory map software to download routes from an ipad. Preferably button control available., with a decent capacity lipol, and that I can get spares for.

ive tried Garmin and I just don’t like them that much  (extrex 35 and Oregon 600), and the Oregon 600 power button has just broken…….

    Cheers

Friend of mine uses one and really rates it. We rarely go off course when she is navigating. The main use case for her though is an enormous battery life as she does mad long audax/endurance events.

I’d never heard of these so had a look… they look good.  I have a Garmin Explore 2 that i am not that good at using. These look more like what I wanted.

I’m in irritating position, I really, really, really like my old Satmap 10, it just works BUT it needs .map files which appear to be a Satmap special and these can only be produced via the satsync program, which doesn’t run on iPad.

satmap 20, like it less than the active 10 but it’s better than Garmin, they did a dickhead battery setup (device specific fitment) , but poss able to sort out by soldering and eBay batteries in original battery case, it connects to iPad though,.

garmin, find screens too small, don’t enjoy using (just too many options, less good maps etc), esp in gloves and after buying maps, and rechargeable battery pack the power button caves in , which “upset” me, (*appears to be known issue, as spares on eBay, so will try that)

TwoNav, liking the look of, (*fyi google gpstraining they do lots of vids etc), BUT, the terra (*and a lot of other models) appears to have an integrated battery (*can’t see spares) so for me that’s a NO, the battery will degrade. So the aventura 2 , it a bit big, it’s expensive (550), with maps and I don’t think they’ve been about long.

mmm not sure , poss stick to Satmap 20, but no spares etc etc, but my 10 is ancient, been dropped, crashed, ripped off bars by me as I flew over the top and it still works, even if it does need some taping love.

gowerboy, if you use windows, try a Satmap 10 or 12 (get one with map card uk, 50 or 25, , check all covers and buttons ok – no spares, …except batteries. ) get a satsync download and you can get gpx onto it via the charger cable. ,,   ***edit, if you just want a rolling map then satsync goes away but NO connectivity at all without it on the 10 or 12

OS sold TwoNav devices under their own name for a while, at the time I was looking to replace my Satmap 10. I didn’t go for TwoNav though – can’t remember why. Got a Garmin Explore because I only want it for navigation, not all the connectivity, meters and measurement stuff.
