I’ve got a pair of posh wellies I’ve had for around 15 years. Aigle Parcours Iso. They’ve been fantastic and still look as good as new externally (the neoprene lining is looking a bit thin in places).  The right one has just sprung a leak near the toe.  I was pretty flush when I bought them, but I’m not now! So I’m not in a position to spend ITRO of 160-200 notes on new replacements.  I may get a cheaper pair, but fancy seeing if I can mend them first.

Has anyone had any joy doing this?  I don’t actually know where they are leaking, there are no obvious holes or tears.  I suspect it may be the seam/welt where the sole is (presumably) glued to the upper. In a couple of places there is a very small (fag paper) gap – on both boots, even the non leaking one.

A quick google brought up this product.  Worth a go? Any other suggestions?

Aquasure is what we used on the other halfs Le Chamois.
Lasted a good year or so but the soles are going now too.

I recently glued up a hole in Barbour wellies with black witch wetsuit glue. Only used this as it’s what I already had at home. Seems to be working ok but I don’t use them much.

Aquasure/Sureguard/Shoogoo (all similar stuff) is a flexible adhesive /sealant

I’ve ordered some Aquasure. Hopefully that will work.

    aquasure will outlast the boots

They should make wellies out of it!

If you havent used it before, it appears thick but will actually run to find its level. So prepare to sit the boot in a position where the glue will stay put while it cures

    👆 Word.
You can make a barrier with some blutac or similar, but it can be better for it to run out to a thin edge I reckon.

Stormsure fixed my aigle parcours after my heel rubbed a hole through the side…still going strong a couple of years later

Hopefully you’ll get them fixed before you get a dose of the flue or even pleurisy

In the unlikely event anyone is interested….

Success! On the second attempt. Despite cleaning and looking very closely, I couldn’t be sure where they were leaking. I assumed the join between sole and upper. I carefully applied Aquasure all the way round with a cocktail stick. I thought I’d done a neatish job. I was gutted when I tested them next day in a bucket of water and could immediately feel water seeping in. I just couldn’t see any bubbles coming from anywhere!

Drastic steps. I put my Titan garage vacuum on blow, put the nozzle in the top of the offending welly and made a loose seal around it with my hand.  With the welly in a bucket of water. I could see bubbles coming out of a tiny ( but obviously deep) hole in the thickest part of the sole near the heel.

I poked as much glue as I could in the hole then made a little dam around it and sealed it over the top with a little glue ‘scab’. It seems really strong and is definitely waterproof now!

The vacuum also did a great job of drying the inside of the boot.  I gave them a clean with some proper rubber dressing and my 15 year old wellies are as good as new.

    Little victories!

    The sweet smell of success

To be fair the sole is probably the last place I’d look for a leak, but it would be easy to stand on a nail or similar and not really notice

I always pour some Stans Sealant into my wellies before I go out.

🤣 I did consider trying to push a tubeless repair ‘worm’ in the hole, but it wasn’t necessary in the end

I used to get the piss ripped out of me for having those when I was 5, I thought they were fun. ☹️

Pound to a penny they weren’t 75 quid in 1988 though!

I like this. My summer, so called as they leak, wellies  could do with a gallon of the stuff. They are so comfy though. Nearly 20 year old neoprene Le Chams
