Youngest daughter finishes college next week and is looking to do some travelling whist she ponders her next step in life. Her and a friend are looking to go to Bali for a month and help out in childcare centres, a similar sort of set up to VSO which I have heard of. This trip is organised by a an organisation called Plan My Gap Year, I’ve never heard of them and whilst their web presence looks legit, well you never can tell these days and Bali is a long way to go to find out that your trip organisers have done a flit.

Anyone’s kids (or indeed anyone) been on one of these gap year trips with them? Accomodation and food up to expectations? any problems or concerns?

    Thanks.

I’d be mega dubious. What is her reason for wanting to help in a child center? If she wants to do good for the world, it would likely be better for her to got to Bali and spend money having fun and try to put the equivalent money into the local economy. Maybe donate a little to a good cause so they can pay a local to work at the child center.

Wealthy untrained westerners walking into kids lives and then out again a few weeks later doesn’t really help anyone much, no matter how well intentioned.
