I managed to get a purple anaerobic capacity ride on Garmin this morning. It was basically a short gravel ride with some hard (for me) hill efforts. I did have power and heart rate measurements. You may find it more difficult to get Garmin to recognise your efforts if you just have a watch.

I do think Garmin fitness tracking stuff isn’t great but it’s a good guide. Just don’t blindly believe what it tells you for VO2 max etc. According to Garmin I do too much blue activities, low aerobic and not enough orange, high aerobic and anaerobic. Generally I think Garmin is correct but does it take age into account. Someone in their twenties can knock their pan in and recover for another bout much faster than us old sixties cruisers. I don’t think the Garmin analysis takes into account age. Anyway I reckon you only need to knock your pan in once a week.

There is a Joe Friel book ’Fast after 50’ which is good source for strength and anaerobic exercise information for grownup athletes.
