Fasthaggis, quite correct. Unfortunately I’m not capable of moving it after I posted and was too dumb to click the right option before I did.

My question is how/why were you better than them tonight?

Tempting as it is to say because I’m awesome or some such, I had a good night plain and simple, some (more) nights I have bad ones where even a curb fills me with trepidation and every pedal stroke is an effort.

We’re entered for a few actual races this year, I’ll be pleased enough with not being fully humiliated so long as I finish.

My last race outing was cx race on a full sus, I managed a whole lap without being lapped by anyone and I made it across the line at the end, enough for me to feel like I’d tried hard and be happy with the result.

It is/was a friendly night ride and no more, smug face/feeling would rather defeat the whole point of that and there in is the point. I don’t want to sit there grinning inwardly thinking “yeah I’m a riding god” (its not true by the way, I’m probably way below average at best). Rather for the same reason is good to ride with people who will rib/encourage when you’re struggling its good when you’re doing well to have those same people say well done, interesting line choice, slow down or whatever, so I can dissipate my smugness rapidly, same as talking about how rubbish I’m doing makes me feel better about that and helps me to get over being so rubbish quicker (some times, I have been known to wallow occasionally). Its very childish to desire recognition I know but hey that’s the way I work.

I suspect you are thinking about this way too much – that’s from someone who thinks about things way too much!

Move on – though the post is interesting in as much as you come at it from the opposite angle from nearly every rider I know – no we don’t want accidents, if someone is ill they get taken home etc etc, apart from that it’s work them over if you can.

he complained he couldn’t match my gearing and on the whole both spent the whole evening after I left themon the first climb complaining about tire pressures, shock pressures drive train comparisons and inefficiencies and the fact that I had fresh legs and they have done various other exercising things this week (

sounds like he had some sand in his foofoo

your response to the whinging should have been to say “suck it up, buttercup” then repeatedly drop him for the rest of the ride and when you finish say “anybody else fancy another cheeky lap before heading home?”

(at least that’s what my ‘mates’ do to me 😆 )

Too many non competitive sports days as a child I think.

Not that they were supposed to be mind, just that I was the fat kid who invariably came last in everything.

I’ve been getting a reputation for being good up hills and I’ve been blaming it on the 650b wheels.

Then I was out with the kids at the weekend and realised that when you’re used to having to cycle pushing a three year old up every hill, then a hill when you don’t have to push a three year old up it is so much easier.

And that’s a training tip you can have for free.

I often ride in a group and there is constant chatter of all kinds, but we always wait at the top for the last person and at the bottom for the last person.

Serious ribbing waits for the pub 🙂

There are only two permissable forms of commentry on your ridding buddies performance and they are as follows.

    >ahem<

GUUUWWWWAAAAHHHRRRRN – when they are doing well

    And

YAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH (accompnaied with pejorative hand gesture) – when not doing so well.

Not to mention the 20kg of extra crap in the rucksack that you have to carry when cycling with kids “just in case”

Only as much as everybody else on here. Which means yes.

I really dislike willy waving, turns good people into nobbers, ruins the confidence of lessers which in turn worsens their riding.

What are the best times riding, or even in life? With mates, relaxed, no egos, congratulating each other on each other on their achievements and hard work. The positivity brings out the best in everyone, everyone rides better and has more fun.

I really detest that society congratulates put downs and generally demeaning behaviour, far slower to reward hard work and good people.

My view is is if your mates are having an off day you turn the crank that little bit harder and ask them if they are ok – you can see the hate in their eyes – nothing better than that IMO.

Normally this is what they do to me – sends me crazy.

    DC… I love this comment! 😉
