For example to clean up and sharpen photos and vid ?

Every time we see a pic or vid of something and its been shot in potato mode it makes recognition utterly impossible, so could al take the pic and work out what it is and give a much sharper clearer image.

On reading the news the other day, a motorcycling tourist had his bike nicked out a hotel carpark, and the stills of the vid were completely blurred(not deliberately) making id of the scrotes completely impossible.

Seems a good use for it, solving crimes as not every security camera films in 8k

I would assume that an AI altered image couldn’t be used as evidence – it has been artificially altered and that would introduce reasonable doubt.

Paaah – they were doing that decades in 24!! And on dumb phones! 🙂

I think to do this, select the area (12 pixels or so will do) with a green grid and then say ‘enhance that for me’ there will then be a swooshy computer noise and the image will sharpen into 9k huuud. 🙂

^^^ They did that once ages ago in some Denzil Washington film IIRC – used a satellite image and managed to ‘enhance’ enough to read a car registration plate or something daft like that.

Yes, you’d get a sharper image. It just wouldn’t necessarily be of the thing or person that was in the original image.

Possibly it could reconstitute blurred images of number plates. Possibly. Not enough to rely on for evidence, but enough to give a clue in order to find corroborating evidence.

AI (or any image expert) might be able to get more out of an image than you or I, but if the information is not there, it’s not there.

Think in extremes to demonstrate this: it might seem feasible to enhance a blurry image, after all it can be done to some extent.
But now imagine that low-res image of a crime scene only has 5 pixels. You cannot enhance it at all because there’s nothing to work with. It’s the same thing.

Big difference between image enhancement and image invention…

All these AI things are just fancy Markov chains.

What is the most likely thing to come next based on the thing you give me, my training data and some fudge factors?

Is that what is really there? Don’t know, don’t care.

    and some fudge factors?

    Wait – theres fudge involved?

How do I become am AI bot?

The latest Pixel phones use AI to unblur pictures, it works well.
