A question for Cotic Solaris owners

Any one else suffering from a slipping seat post? I suspect it’s probably the post rather than the frame but thought I’d check to see if there is anyone else getting this. The post is a Thomson elite and seems quite loose in the frame. If you put it to the correct height and let go it slips down under its own weight.I’ve got a Hope bolted (non qr) clamp and it slips an inch every few miles. Ruining the ride at the mo.

No problems moving here – Thomson post + clamp on a medium. Little bit of creaking though – not been brave enough to undo post and take it out as it marked a bit when I was running it a bit lower than at present

Maybe best to check with another, borrowed, post and see if it’s as bad. The post on my Soul slipped a bit, nothing like you describe. I used some carbon assembly paste to improve things while not having to tighten my Hope qr seat clamp too tight.

Probably a stupid question on my part but are you sure you have the correct size seat post? My Hope Eternity is a snug fit on my solaris (31.6mm) and stays up – without weight – without the seat clamp tightened.

You’re not the first to report a slippy Thomson. I wonder if they err on the small side of the tolerances.

I’ve experience a spate of slipping seatpost instances recently.

All resolved by cleaning off all grease from ST and post and using carbon assembly paste.

Also I have found the non QR Hope clamp not to be as good as the QR one.

I have had no probs with slippage, also running a Thomson post.

Thanks for the quick answer guys. Yep it’s a new 31.6 that bought specifically for this bike. I do have another post I could try although at 350 long is too short to use properly, but I could see if it’s a snugger fit.

Mine (Easton seatpost) was slipping a bit but but mostly due to excess grease. A quick clean and it seems fine. Standard Hope QR clamp.

Right, checked with another post. That fits nicely with no movement. The thomson though can be moved slightly from side to side. Trying some carbon paste to see if that holds it, otherwise looks like I need a new post.

My Thomson seatpost slips down when I’m riding my soul. Never bothered me that much but let me know how the carbon paste goes as I’m building a new soul and would be good to know it carbon paste solves the problem.

Not a Solaris but my Thomson was slipping in my Niner with a new style Hope QR. Never seemed to be able to get it tight enough. Use a Salsa Flip-Lock now & is loads better.

mine slipped but useing a shim, 31.6-27.2 post, bought some tacx carbon paste and changed hope bolt(was bent) and is fine now

I have just bought a new soul with the bigger seat tube which needs 31.6 post, I think I remember Si saying it was the same tubing. I too am having post slipping and have had to wind the clamp infeasibly tight to stop it. I have used an I-beam and a Thomson from other bikes and they both slip! I shall now try the carbon paste trick and see if this makes a difference.

When I had a Thomson in my Giant it would never stay where I wanted it.

Think it was on here on a Titus El Guapo thread last week that some one had the same problem with a Thomson, Brant posted saying that they are well known for coming up small.
