Tenuous ones – A prefect at school when I was in the 1st form is now Chief of the Defence Staff of our Armed Forces, and a guy a couple of years younger than me from my village, who also went to the same school, is credited with revolutionising military combat care in Iraq and Afghanistan.
My Dad was housing manager for the estate where Marco Pierre-White grew up. My parents’ gravestone is about 10 metres from the grave of Eddie Waring (It’s a Knockout and Rugby League commentator). A relative (who I’ve never met) was married to Laurens van der Post who was Prince William’s godfather.
I’ve escorted Honor Blackman (aka Pussy Galore) to a charity ball; I’ve had tea with Michael and Jean Eavis in Worthy Farm; swapped T-shirts with Paddy Ashdown for a charity TV campaign; had an article about me in the Sun; had a phone conversation with Jo Brand; sat in a sauna with a member of the Housemartins and Portishead at the same time; served Ian Botham, Ian Lamb, Geoff Boycott and other England players at the Original Oak in Headingley.
In the last two months I’ve met Princess Anne and Martin Lewis (Money Saving Expert) and had a drunken conversation at a party with Bristol’s Mayor, George Ferguson.
