I’ve been looking for yonks and think I’ve seen most of the previous threads of late for winter shoes, but I still haven’t found anything that suits my requirements. Namely:

    Flat pedal suitable
    Grippy soles
    Vaguely waterproof, and quick drying
    Warmish.
Strong Toe Box (new bike with low BB – already done 2 toes this year…)
Wide toe box for my flippers.

The usual suggestion seems to be hiking shoes but I can’t find any with a stiff sole I’m happy with.

I’ve seen some older Maltese Falcon LT’s for under £50 that seem to tick every single box except for the flat pedal bit, but they come with the cleat cover molded in, and have found quite a lot of comments implying they’re not actually too bad with flats. Has anyone got any experience of this setup with an uncut sole? For the price it almost seems worth the gamble.
Worst case I guess I could just cut the sole and use them as SPDs for the road bike…

Bear in mind the main aim is they need to be better than my current set up of skate shoes, which I’ve never known anything other than in 20 or so years of riding…
