Now: Tech update.

My weekend was spent trying to optimise and the caching rules and performance of the site. There’s a lot to get right there. The voting system for full members seems to be mostly working. We have a lot of file structure changes to make as the way VIP organises files is very different to the way it was on our old Google cloud server. For technical types VIP uses a blob style file storage. This means actual folders and sub folders don’t really exist – which is causing us to have to modify how we reference things like where images are stored. This is related to a few issues I know are bugging the hell out of you, like images in older stories not showing and the uploading of images to the forum. The good news is we know why things things aren’t working and we know how to fix them. It’s just a time issue now.

There’s also page loading problem for users with ads that is causing the page to jerk briefly when loading. This is one of those strange ones where it’s actually not THAT bad for users but Google is killing us for it in search. This one is involving the engineers from WP VIP and EZoic. We are closing in on that one. It’s a priority for us as it’s causing traffic loss from search, which is impacting ad revenue.
