The equipment regs came in largely as a result of the earlier attempts by Dave Baker, Tim Gould et al who used very lightweight cross bikes up hill, then mountainbikes downhill.
The idea is that it’s a cyclocross race, with many years of tradition behind it, and the regs are an attempt to preserve as much of the race character as possible.
we thought it was ironic on Sunday when someone asked, “Why are there only 5 on the Bog Trotter ride? Don’t you always have 30 ?” – but of course there were over 30 STWers :o)
A slipped disc in my ageing back means I’ll cripple myself doing it on drops at the moment, though I’d prefer to ride drops – just because it seems right.
SFB – why don’t you enter and try it? You’re clearly intrigued, or you wouldn’t be loitering here trying to get a rise out of folk. I seem to recall you quite like the fast food trails at Whinlatter having previously slated them?
Live and let thrive fella.
SFB, you’ve got nothing to say and you’re saying it too loudly. There WILL be over 400 people that choose to live by the rules and enter anyway, with or without you, now just drop it eh?
