    Just debating if I can be arsed uploading the dashcam footage to the police portal

    Wait, I thought speed limits were nanny-state gone mad? Surely given your political stance you should be supporting those people who think they know best about how fast they should be allowed to go?

    You just need to pay attention to the road signs.

    Just like everywhere else.

    It’s not at all unreasonable to say that some speed limits are poorly planned.  This has always been the case since we’ve had speed limits.  There’s really no difference now than there ever was.  All that has changed is that the DEFAULT limit in build-up areas, without signs, is now 20.  That doesn’t mean it’s 20 everywhere, it doesn’t mean that the nanny communist state has in fact gone mad.  That’s really not what’s happening here.

    Can we knock off with the unpleasant personal remarks at grimep please? Not really necessary.

    Even though he started it?

    Not really no. I’m sure he enjoys the bants being a troll and all.

    Just back from a Welsh MTB road trip. The 20mph limits were great to see, and good to hear first hand feedback from people who live with them and fully support them.

    @grimep
    – what are you driving to have to “grind along in 2nd gear” when you’re in a 20mph zone?

    Oh look it’s our resident grumpy troll.

    @drac
    serious question. If you know he’s a troll why do you let him get away with it? Or is it simply a case of you can’t be arsed with the whack-a-mole nonsense?

    Really this place needs shadow banning.

    You do realise the speed limit changes at the sign, therefore you only start to accelerate once you’ve passed the sign? If you’ve been caught I’d suggest it’s basic lack of understanding about how the rules work rather than the actual speed limit. If you’ve been caught I suggest you tske the speed awareness course option as you appear to have a lot to learn.

    As I said earlier in this thread, lots of people pay for coaching in sports, careers, relationships, cooking etc. If you can’t stick to a speed limit and/or struggle to find the right gear to use in 20mph zones, why not invest in some driving coaching via IAM scheme or additional lessons? Everyone else on the road would be grateful if you did.

    Think a camera or two got me as they’re positioned right on the 20 / 30 sign change-over point,. so after grinding along in 2nd for 5 mins, you’re 30 yards from a 30, change up to 3rd and then notice the camera too late

    Most of the static speed cameras I’ve seen in the UK aren’t positioned right on the boundary of a speed limit change.  Are things different in Wales?

    I love the economic argument being thrown around that a 10mph reduction in speed will contract the economy by £6bn. This is a figure full of assumptions like nobody is capable of adapting their behaviour (isn’t that what business is all about?). Wheras, a child hit at 20mph rather than 30 is proven without doubt to stand a better chance of survival.

    Whereas, a child hit at 20mph rather than 30 is proven without doubt to stand a better chance of survival.

    The Thinking AND Stopping Distance when driving at 20mph is shorter than just the Thinking Distance at 30mph.

    Nope

    T&S D @ 20mph = 12 metres

    TD @ 30mph =  9 metres

    No. Never seen one on speed change boundary

    On the upside, if he’s got 2 tickets in a week then at this rate he won’t have a license anymore by next month so it won’t be an issue for him anymore.

    Only driving if you have a license is obeying the rules from the nanny state though. I doubt a free-thinker like grim worries about such restrictions.

    It’s not far off, though.

    A better way to think of it is that if a child steps off the kerb at a distance that allows to to just stop at 20mph, then at 30mph you’ll barely get your foot on the brake before impact.

    In reality, though, people don’t drive around at exactly the speed limit; so the ’20’ car is likely to be really doing, say, 23mph and the ’30’ car maybe 35mph. And that’s the difference between gently bumping said child vs hitting them at over 30mph.

    Loving a nanny state hater, who dislikes speed limits, thinking of appealing to the nanny state about speeding…

    The personal conflict is strong in this troll…
