Got a chance of a second hand 2020 carbon stumpjumper. Potential problem is the frame is size large, geometry chart states 5,10 up but I’m closer to 5.9.

A quick Internet trawl suggests these were on the short side for their size. Anyone had one and found they needed larger than suggested?

It’d barely ridden and a decent price, I’m sorely tempted.

Is it 27.5 or 29ner? Which will make a difference to the ride height.

Best size guide is to go see the bike and stand over it/sit on it, if it doesn’t feel comfortable walk away.

I am 5′ 11″ and ride a 2016 Carbon Stumpy large size, but with 27.5 wheels. A mate who is 6′ 1″ also rides a large frame stumpy, but with 29inch wheels and we are both happy with the size.

I’m 5’10” and ride a Large 2019/2020 stumpy 29er personally I’d have said a medium would be too small. Saying that I also run the rear link in high but with a 27.5 rear wheel because I broke the original and it was an experiment that I liked the results of

Depends which Stumpjumper – there seem to be various models / wheel sizes. Have you got a link to the actual one you’re looking at?

Ah sorry, should have mentioned it’s the 29er. Because this is the question I asked the current owner! Carbon, not alloy. Sorry Joe, I have pictures but not a link.

Yeah, I could just go and see it. Good point.

Assuming it’s this one it’s quite small sizing with a 445mm reach although quite an unusually high stack vs reach. If you like a smaller bike then it might be alright for you – for me it’s probably a little bit small. Also has a 455mm seat tube with a kink in it – so that will probably limit how long a dropper you can run.

I think go and have a sit (and preferably a ride) on it and see how it feels.

I’m usually between a small and medium and bought an ex-demo 2020 Stumpy in medium. Lovely bike but felt a tiny bit long so after much unsuccessful fettling I ended up getting a 2021 S2 (small) frame and moving everything over. Definitely go and sit on it.
