Would be changing saddle, wheels, dropper post, grips and tyres, but otherwise that looks lovely.

Very tasty, but will they import it to the UK?

I’d give the tyres a go, although the fork might have to be replaced with a 55.

I suspect it’ll be significanlty slower than it’s main competition, for a sart a CRF450, EXC and YZF all have engines and cost less.

Interesting they’re speccing XX1 on S-Works Epics as well, they obviously see it has a place even on XC Race bikes, possibly at odds with SRAM.

Prices though… I forget exactly what the S-Works Enduro will be it started with a 7, think it was £7200. Can’t see any of the others being cheaper either!

Damn, that could well be my next bike. That looks so nice, change of seatpost only for me, the rest would do nicely

The Camber is 29er only for 2013, they seem to be slowly working through the range phasing out 26″ bikes.

Mehhh, I can see why it costs that much and Honda are going to make a lot more CRF’s than Spesh are going to make S-works Enduro’s.

Does anyone know how the business model works? Does S-works, XX, XTR etc pay for themselves over their 3 year lifecycle or do Spesh, SRAM and Shimano make loss on the top tier when R&D’s accounted for then make the money back when they filter it down to the middle ranges.

£7.2k is just silly money for a push bike though, my Pitch ended up costing about £2.5k to build, and whilst everything on that would be an upgrade, I can’t really say there’s anything individualy on mine that I’d actualy replace now.

The Camber is 29er only for 2013, they seem to be slowly working through the range phasing out 26″ bikes.

Possibly, but then the camber started off as a replacement for the FSR-XC, i.e. a cheeper stumpjumper-FSR (c.f. Pitch and Enduro). They replaced the pitch with a poverty spec enduro so perhaps the camber is now more of a 29er stumpjumper-FSR.

Get used to it I’d say (grudgingly!).

Want a 2013 replica Radio Shack Nissan Trek Madone 7.9? Certainly sir. £9400 please.

Can see people will pay a premium for a ‘mainstream’ brand over Cube/Rose/Canyon etc, but we’re now talking £3000+ premium, for a label. Even at trade that means a similarly specced Canyon would be cheaper.

I like it, but I’m more interested in how the lower spec models will be priced. I assume that they’ll be ten speed only as I don’t see any way of mounting a front mech.

Spesh are always repositioning the Enduro with each iteration, the current bike seems to be aimed at the burly end of the spectrum whilst this new bike – like the ’07-09 models seems to be aimed at Euro enduro type eventers.

My own 2004 Enduro is sat twenty feet away from me in the office as I type, resplendent in glossy black (the paintwork has worn extremely well), it weighs 27lbs exactly with Revelations and a full XT drivetrain, climbs brilliantly and in spite of it’s unfashionable geometry is pretty darned impressive on the descents too. I might just swap it for one of these new fangled Enduros – if the price is right of course!

Why get used to it? That implies acceptance. As in other cases when price and value deviate substantially, far better simply to ignore. But the gullible/fools are always looking for ways to be parted from their money and they receive plenty of help in all walks of life – MTB is just one example.

Spesh and Trek certainly seem to be leading the way in overpricing their top end models, to the point where you could probably buy the parts cheaper at full RRP.

They must have a reason for doing this, perhaps some buyers will fork out for “the best” and make their decision based on the highest price?

Mehhhh, capitalism innit? What they carge will bear some realtion to what it costs them, Cannyon pretty much order your bike from Tiawan when you press order so that will always be cheeper than Specialized/Trek running a showroom and having to stock £7.2k bikes in it.

Saying that I do remember being in a showroom and there being a limited edition Lance Armstrong Madone, one of however many, signed. And that only being £5k and a bit. Guess this is what happens when wages rise in the far east, we can’t be far off bikes ‘Made in India’ or Africa though as companies look to find cheeper factories?

I had customers come in to my shop and ask what the best bike we had was. I took that to mean most expensive and sold them that.

There will always be customers like that. In addition, the silly money bikes are flagship models – very few actually sell but they’re the dream bike for many who will then buy the more reasonably priced, fundamentally similar looking model that they actually can afford in order to have a bit of the dream. Silly really but it works. Except on TJ 😉

interesting on the XX1 front that they felt the need to spec an upper guide

their 2013 road bikes have come down in price in some areas -Can now get a tarmac for £1200 whereas the cheapest tarmac last year was about £1600 i think (better groupset though). Hopefully will be the same for their mtb range too outside the halo models.

As a bigger bike to partner my Soul that looks near perfect. Fortunately it wouldn’t get ridden enough to justify the cost (even if I had the money!) as most of my riding is more fun on a smaller bike. If someone wants to give me one for gravity enduro racing I wouldn’t say no…

Great looking bike and loads of chainring clearance but I would worry about that downtube with rockstrikes.

Gorgeous, would like a test ride though before I order one, where can I ride one then……?

Tracey – guessing the CCDB air’s will not fit the enduro’s. TF tuning have have both of their CCDB coil’s fitted to spec enduros fail…… I asked the same question for mine very recently!

Doesn’t seem to worry Sam Hill.

I’m more paranoid about my aluminium downtube so I’ve put a bit of folded over tyre (which fits nicely over the lower part of the ‘S’ shape) to catch the worst and it’s done a good job, certainly quieter than the incessant tink-tink-tink-tink that followed my old 456 everywhere!

Probably, but he’s probably stressing it a lot more than somene who pays for it! I vaguely remember reading somewhere that at the very top they only usualy get 3 bikes a year. A race bike with all the pimpy bits, a practice bike that’s close but without the pimpy bits and one-off prototypes, and a one off world championship bike if the sponsor want’s a funky go-faster colour scheme. Outside the top ten they’ll hammer the same frame all year.

Bearing in mind they probably get more rides form a bike during their winter training than Average Joe gets out of it in 3 years, and their training is probably harder, the bikes must be pretty tough!

I want that. And if I cant have it I want to go 1 x 11 on my 2010 enduro. except that it has a standard QR rear wheel so I bet I cant

    🙁

maybe in 2 years time there will be one at a bargain price on bikscene

TINAS – I got one of these to protect the downtube, it works really well (though I did have to re-drill the holes so it fitted right)

But if you want that top end bike from a mainstream manufacturer then ignorance doesn’t really help you. Prices have risen for at least 10 consecutive years.

The issue I have (not that I’m expecting nor deserving of any tears!) is that I have a moral obligation to ride one of the mainstream brands through the LBS I ride for. So I have a 2011 Top Fuel, which I love, and I got for a great price, but it’s a £6500 bike at retail. To replace it with the equivalent 2012 one and cover my costs I’d have needed to sell it for more (second hand) than an equivalent spec new Canyon etc. So I’ve kept it, and I like it very much, but that’s a vicious cycle as ‘branded’ bikes get more – that gulf widens.

I could ride a cheaper model, but still be paying more for it than a Canyon!

I expected some back lash this year and the prices to drop a bit, this is the first year there’s been really strong opposition from the direct-to-market type brands. But no, further price rises.

    me too

Doesn’t seem to worry Sam Hill.

he’s a better bike handler than most of us here and when he does stuff it onto a rock will get another gratis.

I mentioned something about the lower bearing on the nomad looking like a strike point when it first came out, people on here said “nah it’s out of the way” speaking to a nomad owner a couple months ago he said “yep it does attract a lot of rock strikes” Every enduro I’ve seen has had tyre wrapped around the downtube so sounds like plenty of owners have the same worries. Apart from the bottle cage placement is there any other reason for that shape of downtube.

I’d have an enduro tho, downtube aside it looks ok, if it was cheap enough.

Apart from the colour and the shock, there’s not a lot between the frames on the 2011 and 2013 models.

And since you’re going to wear out your drivetrain in 6 months why get the 2013?

Oh right; the colour and the shock.

I saw those but the feedback wasn’t very positive, apparenly they’re not really tough enough to take rocks coming up from the front wheel. Bu then again it’s argueable that you dont know how much damage the rock would o otherwise.

Every enduro I’ve seen has had tyre wrapped around the downtube so sounds like plenty of owners have the same worries.

I’ve never actualy seen this on another XC/AM bike, I saw it on a DH bike and figured it was a good idea so copied it from there. That and it’s a wory not a problem, and the downtubes only fractionaly lower than without the curve.

As for why the curve’s there int he first place, I assume it’s becasue the BB/pivot/seatube area is quite crowded so to avoid bringin yet another tube into the top of the BB they’ve snaked it in from the front to keep the whole area stiff.

The other thing I just don’t get is why they route the cables down the front of the downtube.

that rockgaurdz thing I bought to protect the downtube has taken a good couple of knocks and the frame is still OK. I’m not sure how long it will last but I’m reasonably sure I would have had some dents without it.

then again it cost me £30 and a piece of old tyre is cheaper than that
