If I was trying to fit a headset with a 1.5 lower cup using a cyclists headset press, could I use hope’s step down adapter as an adapter for this?

Would it fit perfectly on the 1 1/8 bit on the press but also fit perfectly in the 1.5 bottom cup? Hence solving the issue the press only works with a 1 1/8 headset?

Don’t think so – it’s designed to slot into the bearing with a crown race on top of it, would be too small to push the cup

I bought a machined adapter from ebay, it was from the states and does the job perfectly fits my cyclus press as if it was made by them.

I think the hope adapter would struggle to sit square as it has a large diameter hole as opposed to the small one on the proper presses and might slip out of alignment

Pop ‘headset press adapter’ into ebay and loads pop up

Ah, so what about if the adapter was sitting against the 1.5 crown race too?

I’ve not got the cyclus press yet you see, it was just a thought before I bought.

Wouldn’t it just sit against the 1 1/8 press though? That’s how it pushed in a 1 1/8 isn’t it?

I’m thinking my trusty block of wood and rubber mallet might be the answer.

Just edited above post with an ebay search suggestion, but can thoroughly recommend a proper headset press for fitting headsets easily and square, the stepped cups fit the inside of the bearing cups and prevent twisting so everything sits square from the start to the end.

Others will be along to suggest threaded bars and washers, but for £30 why risk writing off your frame?

The threaded bar has only ever worked once for me. It always goes off line.

Yeah I want a proper tool but the park one is just too expensive.

Cheers I’ll have a look at the link.

Lummox any idea whic one will work with the cycles on the eBay search?

I don’t have the details still in my order history but I just went for one designed for 1 1/2 or 1.5″ ,the Chris king is designed so it sits a certain way in those headset cups and prevents damage, I’ve used one designed for a ck and it sat perfectly for my hope cup.

Jot got some of those adapters on ebay, mtbtools is the seller I think. Not used them yet but they fit on the cyclus press.

    Yep it’s those.
Try sending him an email if you can it through, as going through ebay with the postage costs would have been expensive. He did me a deal direct for a few adapters for about £25 posted.

    Ok brilliant?

We should start a lending club for things like this. It’s so expensive for a different tool every time a new sized headset is needed.

    He did the following adapters for me – 2×1.5″, 1×1 1/4″, 1×1 1/8″, 2xbb30 and 2 crown race drifts (1.5″ & 1 1/8″)for £25ish posted.
Didn’t need all of them at the mo but they were returns that a customer didn’t want but that wasn’t a prob for me at that price.

That’s pretty good. I only need the 1.5 adapter so I’ll send him an email.

    hi,
i´m looking at buying the cyclus headset press tool right now and trying to figure out which size to buy. I don´t have a 1.5 or tapered currently but want to be future ready. Is that ebay link and the 1″ – 1 1/8 ” press all you need then? Also, does this work well for press fit bottom brackets? Main thing here for me is the headset but also want to be smart and buy the right tool which does it all. As these are bulky items I don´t want to have to have 2 different presses sitting around taking up space. Thanks for the input.
