We will be in touch
Manchester. Last night. With my 11 year old.
Fantastic.
Those guys have a back catalogue to die for and effortlessly work an audience.
If you like that sort of music (possibly even if your not sure), get yourself there. You will not regret it.
An excellent live act, and some huge tunes.
First live band I went to see way back when.
Is it still true that they've sold more keyrings than albums? 🙂
You've got to go back a long time for the best stuff
Dunno about that, their cover of Gotsta Get Paid is great. Fun fact, Billy Gibbons was one of Jimi Hendrix favourite guitar players
Such an awesome band. And beyond cool. Would love to see them live!
Even after all these years, I still can't believe that Frank doesn't have a beard.
Saw them on the Eliminator tour in 1984 (could have been '85) when they hit the mainstream but agree that their earlier stuff is the best.
Seen them several times now. The albums don't really cut it for me - rather too flat, but their live sound is just incredible and they're sufficiently self aware/tongue in cheek that they can carry off their stage act despite their age - no idea how old the Rev Billy G is, but it must be a big number now.
Well he reckoned he first played the UK in 67 - so at least 50 (he may have started early).
gordimhor - yep. They played that. Almost a 2 hour set, so they played quite a bit, mainly Eliminator and earlier (possibly 3 more recent tracks I think). Still good stuff they missed though - no Beer Drinkers or Heard it on the X for example. Couple of Hendrix tracks thrown in - and do we count Jailhouse Rock as theirs or not these days?
PS Both Gotsta Get Paid and Just Got Paid were in the set - which amused me (easily amused though)
Cheap Sunglasses and Arrested for Driving While Blind? 2 staples of any set I've heard from them.
Definitely Sunglasses.
Possibly not Arrested.
Jealous! I'd love to see ZZ Top...
What about Sinpusher... ?
If I'd known they were touring I'd have rushed to get tickets.
Once went to see The Hamsters do a ZZ Top/Jimi Hendrix night, and it was stunning. The music really sounds great live - actually the first time I understood the fuss about Hendrix.
Saw The Top play That London some years back, possibly Shepherd's Bush Empire, can't remember for sure, but they were bloody amazing, they had this huge curved wall of amps and cabs right across the stage behind them, all Orange amps IIRC..

And the rest! Born in 1949.
slowoldman - indeed - Dec 16 is it?. Two years younger than Brian Johnson though.
Actually think about it, Billy won't reach the government's new retirement age until Christmas. And he opened for Hendrix.
Both Gotsta Get Paid and Just Got Paid were in the set
Hmm, I'd like to hear/see these live.
Not sure I could handle a whole gig though.
I'd also fancy a wander through Billy's guitar collection. It's well tidy.

Best not look at Joe Bonamassa's collection!

That would never work, I'd be done for moirda first. I just can't stand the ****.
Billy has lock ups filled with vintage teles and sg's, he's the man. Plus I'd quite like to shoot the shit with him too.
Oooh, I've got Rio Grande Mud, Tres Hombres, and Fandango on vinyl; have to pull them out and have a listen, it's been a while (",)
Gibbons is one of my favorite guitarists. Over the years he's simplified the parts using more economical hammer ons ond pull offs when you can see he used slides on early vids. The uncanny thing is that it stil sounds great. He's got a great groove and makes it look effortless, maybe to him it is. If you want to learn almost everything there was to know about playing rock guitar in th eearly seventies, learn La Grange.
This popped up on shuffle in the car last night - somehow reminds me of the "lick my love pump" scene from spinal tap.
Also Dusty Hill is an absolute master of doing so much with so little - of which a key aspect is his gnarly bass tone, to quote: "a rhino farting in a trash can".
Saw them loads in the 80's and 90's including headlining Donnington and Milton Keynes. Happy days.
